Thirty-Seven Cents and a Prayer by Richard B. Garren, ISBN#1-4241-8032-5, Published by Publish America, Baltimore, http://www.richardbgarren.com
I feel so honored and blessed by reading Richard B. Garren's book titled Thirty Seven Cents and a Prayer.
From the late 1800's to the time after the depression this story tells of a family with courageous women in the forefront and their battles just to exist and find true meaning in life. This book is especially about one such woman whose faith kept her going when other women would have surely given up. It is full of love and pain, harship and endurance. The struggle within a young woman's life to make a living so she and the one she loved the most could have a little home of their own someday seemed an almost impossible dream. She never allowed it to die and she always looked to God for peace in time of trouble and He never failed her.
This book can do nothing but warm your heart and bring tears to your eyes. It was beautifully written and most definitely should be a movie. It will leave you with the highest regards for this writer and the love he had for his family to honor his grandmother and mother in this way. A true heirloom for Richard's family and a special keepsake for anyone who chooses to read it.

Review of:
"Thirty-Seven Cents and a Prayer"
By Richard B. Garren
ISBN: 1-4241-8032-5
www.richardbgarren.com
The Author of this book "Thirty-Seven Cents and a Prayer" is an excellent storyteller. He relays this story in a matter of fact, honest, and straight-forward way and with integrity which shows the characters having strength, wisdom and a theme of Faith to God. Yes, this theme ran deep within these pages being very consistent that God is with these people through their trials and joys. I was impressed to see that they lived what they believed and trusted in Him. The Author travels through time with four generations and their relationships with their families as well as dealing with the kindness of strangers. It is good to try to understand a different era in time because it seems so foreign than our time is today. The main character was a Godly woman named Ollie Grace. It was interesting how she llived through each disappointment, challenge, situation and even the obstacle of being rejected, and sold into a loveless marriage. Her strong faith and sheer will helped her to selfessly love her daughter no matter what. One of the hardest things for them to cope with was when Ollie purposefully choose to be separated from her daughter for ten years so Mary Lee could get an education.
It seems the messages most give about God these days is when you trust in Him everything will go your way and He is about making us successful. In his book the examples of the people who lived out their Faith in God, their lives were very hard and they barely survived day to day. The sturdy endurance wass because God let them know in their hearts He would be with them through all of it but not spare them from the harsh realities of life.
